From Manitou Experience Camper, Charles, Age 14
My experience at Camp Manitou is one I will never forget. On the bus ride there, I was a little nervous at first because I didn’t know the other boys. However, five minutes into the bus ride, I started making friends. All of the kids had a loss in their family in common, so it made it easier to relate to them. During the week, I met three super friends that I really connected with.
My favorite activities at camp included learning how to waterski, kneeboard, and kayak. It was an awesome experience that I will never forget. Nightly campfires were also a favorite of mine, and I felt comfortable talking about the loss of my brother in front of campers and counselors. The counselors were some of the most amazing people I have ever met, because they really cared about us and made that week special and fun for every camper. The food was delicious, especially the pulled pork sandwiches.
After returning home from Camp Manitou, I felt like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders because I had met and related with kids who were going through the same thing that I was. The experience made me feel better to know that I was not alone in my grief and suffering.
I can’t wait to see everyone at the reunion, and return again next summer to continue making great memories.???
