Plans for 2011
It’s our goal to reach as many kids as possible to give them the camp experience.
Manitou Experience will again expand by one grade, as well as another bunk of campers. We continue to partner with Jeff’s Place, the year-round bereavement support groups started in September by Jenny Kaplan Schreiber and Ryan Loiselle, our Directors of Bereavement Services at Manitou Experience.
Summer Dreams and SEED School Camp are looking to extend the opportunity to the girls at each of their schools. The girls camp would be run as a separate program at neighboring Camp Eastwood, and would focus on the same core values using the creative and performing arts.

Letter from a Summer Dreams Family
From Andrew, Summer Dreams Camper
Dr. Carroll and all:
Thank you so much for the opportunity of coming back to Summer Dreams. I learned to be a leader and to take control as a young man, and school is such a great place to show it. Hope to see you next year!!
From,
Andrew
From Andrew’s Grandmother
To Dr. Carroll and Summer Dreams Counselors and Mentors -
Thank you for giving up a week for the boys. Andrew had a wonderful time. When we see our children having an experience in life that brings them joy and happiness it is something to treasure – believe me Andrew had it one more time.
The book you chose was wonderful. I was able to read it while Andrew was away and then share it with others. Andrew was also quizzed on it.
Deep gratitude in my heart,
Evelyn

Letter from a Camper
From Manitou Experience Camper, Charles, Age 14
My experience at Camp Manitou is one I will never forget. On the bus ride there, I was a little nervous at first because I didn’t know the other boys.

President's Message For the New Year
We, at Manitou Camps Foundation, believe in the power of summer camp. Camp is a safe environment that promotes self-confidence, leadership, independence, and respect for each other and the environment. It teaches important skills and values while disguising these lessons as FUN.
This year, 175 kids were given the experience of summer camp thanks to the volunteers and contributors that support the Manitou Camps Foundation. 175 kids who otherwise would not have had this opportunity, spent the week making new friends, competing in challenges and athletics, and having the time of their lives.
The Seed School Camp, joining us for the first time in June, brought 60 boys from Washington D.C. We found many similarities between camp values and the SEED vision of Excellence, Effort, and Exposure. We are honored to be part of the innovative curriculum that the SEED school embraces in their quest to prepare their students for college.
Manitou Experience returned for its second year, nearly doubling the number of campers, with almost all of last year’s campers returning. We have continued plans for growth, through our enrollment as well as the addition of year-round bereavement support groups at Jeff’s Place in Wayland, MA.
Summer Dreams also returned for its second year with familiar and new faces. Summer Dreams is made up of the 10 Boys’ Initiative in Boston, which focuses its efforts on Black and Latino boys who could benefit from extra support in their academic and social development.
These programs are making a difference in children’s lives in ways that will define who they become and how they get there. We believe every child can benefit from the experience of summer camp, and we will continue to partner with innovative social and educational programs to offer this opportunity to as many as possible.
Thank you for your support, donations, volunteering, and participation. We are looking forward to a successful 2011!
Sincerely,
Jon Deren
